Welcome to the Transportation section of the website.
The Gurdon Public Schools Transportation Department wants you to know how we love and value the kids in our district. We take great pride in our job and great pride in presenting you with information about our department that we deem not only helpful but necessary to our community!
On this page, you will find resources to help students and their families to connect with our department. We hope that this page continues to grow and to be as interactive as possible.
We will use the school website and app to relay important information quickly in the event of a weather-related event.
For the first time in six years, I am pleased to report that we are blessed to be fully staffed! With myself, three available subs, and seven full time drivers, we are currently in excellent shape! No route changes this year other than earlier pickup and one hour later drop off times as of 08/07/2024. K-2 kids living on E Crayton now have the option to be dropped off right after primary school dismissal via Roadrunner bus. As always, bus riding is ABSOLUTELY a privilege, not a right.
The handbook has been re-written for transportation this year, please know it, I fully expect good, positive behavior. Food and trash are my focal points this year as we MUST do better at keeping the insides of our buses cleaner.
With the change to a four day week this year comes earlier pickup times. At this time we are looking at running rural buses 15-20 minutes earlier and in town buses 10-15 minutes earlier. Please give us grace and ALWAYS err on the side of caution by being at your bus stop EARLY.
As always, I will continue to serve this district as I see safely and logistically fit. Remember, its GREAT to be a Go-Devil! #cultureiseverything!
Lets have a GREAT ‘24 - '25 school year!

The Gurdon Public School District has developed a Bus Safety Plan to help insure the safety of students transported on our buses and to meet the requirements set forth by Arkansas Code Annotation 6-19-110 and Act 1206 of 2009. This plan was developed because of the increasing hazards involved in transportation to and from school, not only the hazards of loading and unloading students but also hazards related to weather conditions. The Superintendent and Transportation Director will work in conjunction with the Clark County Sheriff’s Department and Gurdon Police Department to ensure the safety of the children being transported on school buses.
Bus drivers will make the transportation director aware of any safety issues they observe while driving their bus routes. The transportation director will check into these issues and see what steps need to be taken to remove the threat to safety from the routes. If the route needs to be changed, the transportation director will make the necessary adjustments. If a change in the route doesn’t help, the transportation director will notify the proper agency to help alleviate the safety problem. Anytime that the driver feels that there is a safety hazard, he/she will report the issue to the transportation director. Gurdon School District assumes much of the responsibility of making sure that our students arrive to school and back home safely each day. The transportation director will periodically review the routes for efficiency and safety issues.
Each year the drivers will receive three hours of training in school bus safety. This training includes all procedures for loading and unloading, laws, train track safety, and their responsibility to report any and all motorists who violate the provision of Arkansas Code Annotated 27-51-1004 or 27-51-1005. Prior to school starting each year the transportation director will meet with the bus drivers and review thFull Width H1 H2 H3 H4 H5 Transportation bus routes and district safety procedures.
The transportation director will contact local law enforcement agencies regarding issues affecting the safety of students loading and unloading school buses. Bus drivers will document motorists who do not abide by the bus safety laws. This documentation will be given to the transportation director and passed along to the deputy prosecuting attorney’s office.
The Gurdon School District commits to train drivers and work with local law enforcement agencies, the local prosecutor and other agencies to ensure that our routes are as safe as possible. Drivers will constantly look for hazards along routes and report any safety concerns. This information will be passed along to the appropriate city or county agency.
The Gurdon School District will provide each law enforcement agency with a copy of the school bus safety plan and will stay committed to strict adherence to the School Bus Safety Plan. The school district works diligently to maintain open and positive relationships with all local law enforcement agencies to ensure the safe transportation of our students.
