The Gurdon JR and SR Beta Clubs are looking for sponsors to help them prepare for and attend state and national conventions. The state convention is in January in Hot Springs, AR and the national convention (which both clubs qualified for by attending Leadership Summit earlier this week) is in June in Savannah, GA. We are going to create a t-shirt for all members, club sponsors, and chaperones to wear at service project events, fundraisers, and conventions. The business sponsors will be featured on the back of the t-shirts, along with possibly a thank you with each publication about Beta's activities and accomplishments. Please contact Mrs. Nolen or Mrs. Russell at Gurdon High School if you have any questions.

See you there Monday!

Ms. Wanda is the best! She I was named Staff of the Month for September. Her teachers and students appreciate everything she does for their halls!

Ms. Stormes showed up and showed out in September! She never fails to give her all for GHS! That s why she was named Teacher of the Month for September. We don't know what we would do without her!

September was the month to BE GREAT at GHS! We had not one, but 3 Students at f the Month! Seniors were the ones to watch! Sydney Thomas, Zoie Turnbiw, and Abigail Brown were recognized for their service and attitudes!

Gurdon JR Beta qualified to compete at Nationals in June in Savannah, Georgia in Collaboration Connection, Lead Outside the Box, and Project Proposal! Members of the Senior Beta Club represented GHS at the Regional Leadership Summit in Hot Springs and qualified for the National Convention in three events! They collaborated, competed, and built friendships with outstanding students from all over Arkansas and other states. They even got some time to go experience the history and science of the hot springs themselves!

We're grateful for our teachers! Teams worked hard today planning instruction and analyzing standards. We appreciate the hard work they put in to make students successful!

Every area of the school that you can think of received an emergency bleeding control kit this week. Classrooms, offices, outer buildings, buses! The kits contain the supplies that are needed to treat an emergency bleeding event: gloves, survival blanket, tourniquet, wound packing gauze and compress, emergency trauma dressing, entry/exit wound chest seal, and medical scissors. We work hard to make sure our students are healthy and safe at school! Be Great!

Did you know that all Gurdon students in K-6th grades receive a fresh fruit or vegetable snack in the afternoon 3 days per week? This snack is funded through the USDA Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program. Today Destiny Norton and J'Carion Brewer helped show off the fresh grapes at CES!

Dr. Pennington will be at school on Thursday for medical appointments. Call the Wellness Center at 353-5123 Ext. 122 or Arkadelphia Clinic for Children at 870-246-8036 to get an appointment!

It's always a good day when you can have class outside! Physical Science students are investigating the atoms that make up the world around us. They learned that atoms have electrons around the outside and a tiny nucleus in the middle. If a single atom were the size of a stadium, the nucleus would just be the size of a pom-pom in the middle of the field. (Can you see it?) The rest of the atom? Empty space! Think about that the next time you sit down. That chair is made of mostly empty space!

October is Dental Hygiene Month. Taking care of your oral health improves student school performance, sleep and nutrition! Brush for 2 minutes, twice daily to keep your smile healthy. Kids should receive dental exams every 6 months. We make it easy - call the Wellness Center today at 870-353-5123 Ext. 122 to sign up for dental appointments at school with Dr. Byrd. #MySmileMatters
